highly decorative Japanese paper. Known as
‘yuzen’ by the Japanese
but often referred to as ‘c
hiyogami’.  Whereas the term ‘washi’ simply means Japanese paper
.
The base paper is made of long fibers of laid kozo which gives
this paper a cloth
like
nature
.
Th
ese papers are
hand silk-screened here in Japan on
long
print beds formally used to print
lengths of
k
imono cloth also known as ‘yuzen’.
Each design is built up in layers,
in
complex designs this
can be up to six layers
.
In places you can even see the texture of the screen used to print them and the variation
in the consistency of the ink. On some papers the layers are very slightly misaligned.
I think it all adds flavour to the item.
In the age of glossy, flat digitised printing it is these qualities that give this paper the edge.
It is a truly special product that could so easily be lost in a generation.

Postage
All items will be posted directly from Japan.
Although the postal system
here is
extremely
reliable
all delivery times are estimated and therefore cannot be
guaranteed. Tight customs and security procedures on entry to your
country can cause delay. In a few extreme cases up to 5-6 weeks.

Packing
The item can be gently folded and sent in an A4 envelope. Using this method the paper will be entire but when unfolded will retain some creasing.
For
an additional fee of $5 the item can also be sent rolled in a tube. The price of this method is
pushed up by the weight of the tube. But it may be worth it
if you decide to buy more than one full sheet.
